I guess the price for these is higher there in North America?

Here in Europe you can get original BMW part for 82€ and for example Febi after market part for 38€.

The left and the right are identical front and back besides the cable, so you can have a spare for any corner by buying opposite corners.. eg. buy right front and left rear and you have the parts to fit on any four corner; also, unless your cable rusted you can move the cable over.

In the case you replace with an on-hand spare, you can also almost always repair the one you just took out for 30’ and have another spare.

To electrically unlock the doors you turn the key 45° but if the motor doesn't work you need to turn the key 90° to engage the mechanical unlock (same in reverse for locking)
If I lock the doors remotely, they will lock.
If I try to unlock remotely, by pressing the key on the key fob, the door won't unlock.

In addition I cannot turn the key 90 degrees, only 45 in either direction. Go figure!

I'm leaving my door unlocked for now, but at least it opens with the new handle

If you can't turn the key more than 45, either the key cylinder or the actuator is broken. The key cylinder is good for about 300-500 uses before it breaks. My remote doesn't work and I have to rebuild my cylinder about yearly.

That said you can turn the key 45 and hold It will roll down the windows and you can reach in to open the door from the inside as long as the double lock motor is still working.

For $12 buy a pair of door lock motors and refurbish your lock actuator.

Also, look inside your lock cylinder it's almost surely broken. For $10 you can get a rebuild kit from Amazon (they often need a little fine tuning with a file to operate smoothly). That should restore 90° operation.

Ok just bought the rears at a higher cost than the fronts and now I read that the rears and fronts are same, others than cable.length,? Nuts. Oh well.

I figured that out trial and error. If your rear cable is broken you still need a rear

I just replaced the LEFT FRONT Door Carrier (BMW $100) in 2019.

Now, the LEFT REAR door has similar symptoms (have to pull hard from the outside to open the door)...Will have to replace this item soon.

Options include Febi ($45) vs BMW ($115)...

Any review on Febi?

AWR-Fix: Door Handle Carrier Permanent Fix*

If it works when you’re pulling hard usually means is the normal break at the hinge and can be repaired
