Yep, nothing wrong with that Xtrons unit. I believe Prop has one in the E46 or E39... LOL or E53. Can't remember which.
You can remove the dvd player, cd changer, tcu (Bluetooth module) from the cubby hole but you have to leave the amp if non dsp or the dsp if dsp.

You can remove the radio module by the battery.

The only part that has to stay for a normal android install is whatever amp the car came with.

Wasn't the goal... but sounds like a great way to get some healthy dinner.

Correct, unless going with aftermarket amp/amps.

I appreciate the help from everyone. AND, I'm well aware of the price paid for all this advice.... hence, I am the one ultimately responsible.

If it doesn't end up too rainy on Friday, I'm heading over to my friend's house to try to diagnose my problem(s). He asked if I had schematics for the components, but I was unable to find much out there. If anyone knows a source, please let me know. I did find pinout info, but not actual schematics.

AM.

This has to be the best bargin out there right now! The newer version of the Seicane S6902, the S6902M (8-core CPU, 4G RAM etc.) has dropped in price to US$263..!!

https://www.seicane.com/car-dvd-play...oth-srd-8786-1

Oooh... I'm VERY tempted...

*edit* Hang on folks - reading the specs further down they state it's only quad core and 2G of RAM - WTH?

Looks like the page has messed up descriptions, images etc. - moving on....

(I was looking deeper to figure out why it was so cheap).

That looks great, but they estimate shipping of $57 to me, which hurts its value proposition. Their website doesn't make it clear if they charge extra for the long cable to go to the back. If they throw it in free, then that would help.

Thanks for mentioning this one, as it's certainly worth considering.

AM.

Since the OEM mic is powered and in the best location and well it's OEM, I left it.

So now my phone connects to both the Android unit and the TCU and I use the TCU strictly for calls. It's all streamless and still get the call information on the screen.

Having "Hey Siri" to text and calls makes it very useful when driving. Even for navi, I just say "hey Siri, take me home" and it starts right away.
Interesting. This is good news, I still like my factory BT TCU
