Help With Instructions to Install INPA DIS

Hello,

fellas, can you guys point me to a thread or video with good instructions on how to install INPA DIS and other BMW Software. I finally secured a laptop and INPA Cable.

Note: Since this laptop will be solely for BMW diagnostics, do i still need to install a virtual machine?

Thanks,
DoN

One of our members Armenh7 has done some nice videos on installation for several operating systems. Here is your link.

All free links for download on www.bimmergeeks.net

There's also a "Mikes Easy BMW Tools" install link on E90Post or on Bimmerpost

I bought the cable with the software suite from Romania approx 4 years ago, my cable doesn't work with E70 so I had to get a new cable from Bimmergeeks - just updated my SPDaten's for the E53 and E70 and all programs seem to be running fairly well

I would install Rheingold/Ista but I don't have the hard drive space on my dedicated Dell laptop - just the Inpa/Ediabas/DIS etc install took up about 35-40 GB

If anything, I highly recommend using a dedicated laptop - they can be had very affordably now, my Dell D620 is nothing fancy when I purchased in 2014 and I think I paid $75 for it -

Pay attention to the specs as well, with RAM, processor speed, hard drive space etc - I'm sure you can get decently used and refurbished laptops with fresh install of Windows for under $100 -

If I ever find that I "need" Rheingold or Ista I may upgrade to a laptop with more hard drive space. But for basic coding and diagnostics I should be ok, I mainly wanted to be able to prime the E70 diesel fuel pump after a filter service so it wouldn't dry crank, and code modules, and as long as Ediabas works on the E70 with the new cable, mission accomplished.

I had my brother ship me his old Asus laptop, which i received in the mail last night. haven't confirmed the specs yet. but i'm hoping its at least 500GB in memory with good ram and speed.

I will post updates after work tonight with progress on the installation.

The inpa I downloaded from bimmergeeks doesn't have E53 chassis. Did I get too modern of a version?

You can add any chassis in to the INPA Menu - there's a few DIY's on how to do this. I had to add the E53 to mine....

Grab a used Panasonic tough book CF – 52 off of eBay. It’s a rugged laptop that has dedicated serial port for the older cables. You can get a nice one with an I5 for around $200. They have a nice bright display for use outside and some even come with a touchscreen.

You can drop this off your fender on the pavement and it’ll keep working. Make sure upgrade it with an SSD if it doesn’t already have it and it’ll be bulletproof
