Whacky windows

Well look s like my service engine soon issues have subsided for the moment.

When raising drivers window I heard a sharp snapping sound and operation got a little squirrelly. So I ordered a regulator and clips and had a great six hours bonding with my door.

To the question: rear clip was busted so I replaced the clip and did not swap the regulator. When installing the bushing for the clip (#6 on link below) I put the shoulder of this bushing in from the back side of the window, per Mr Bentley. I couldn’t tell how the front clip (still secure) was installed.

Did I screw this up, or is my regulator the problem?
The snapping sound just happened again, I think the back clip just broke again. Looking for wisdom while awaiting more clips

Thanks
Mike

6 hours. Lol. Damn. You will become a pro with bmw regulators soon enough. Gonna be able to do this in an hour max.

Anyway. Yes I believe you put the bush in properly. No I don’t think that’s your problem. You probably broke the slider that is attacked to the cables. Usually it is a regulator swap thing. You can buy the parts these days pretty cheaply. Some people even replaced it without pulling the regulator out. Anyway. If you have the regulator, and don’t feel like waiting for the sliding clip to get delivered, just swap it out. If you want to try ordering just the clips, I think it’s regulatorfix.com. Not 100% sure. Search forums. It was discussed recently here.

20 min. What are you getting stuck on? The door handle cable is designed to pop off when you pull panel towards you. Don’t even bother removing it by hand. Just don’t forget to remove the door handle light before pulling panel away.

No prob. We here for you.

It’s seriously a pain in the ass the first time, but I’ve had it off so many times between all my BMWs that I won’t even hesitate to just pop it off if I hear some funny shit going on.

Anyway hope your fix goes smooth.

Got it done today. Sure glad I ordered extra clips. Got glass to drop into front regulator on the last set. Lubed the shit out of it.
Took me all day. Making a slight crinkling noise in front rail, operating smoothly.

Thanks for all your help. I can always count on the outpost

Mike

Which brand of regulator do you use?

Who are you asking? I used the one from dealer. Craig Hacker From Open Road BMW in NJ does club discounts at 15% over cost. So the price for OE parts is very reasonable. You just need to tell him you are from Xoutpost club. I’m also in NYC so they do part runs twice a week, and some dude brings it to my door. Works out nice for me.
