@wpoll Well that is cool! Like they say, if you have thought about it somebody has already done it. I have one fridge, my furnace, air conditioner and air exchanger all running on Arduinos. I can vouch for how cheap and robust everything is, but don't have the time to do the Ibus. Aren't you a software guy?

I'm a tech guy - hardware, software, but I struggle with wetware...!

I'm going to read up on this some more on this, out of professional curiosity if for no other reason. But I know that reading won't be enough and I'll have to start playing with a setup, just to see it work.

But I'm very cautious with mods etc. - I don't even goof with much coding etc. - what little time I have to work on the e53 is spent maintaining it, not modding it.

Time is the issue isn't it? And we ain't getting any younger....

Yeh, I couldn't help but dig around a bit more, slipped, and ended up ordering a couple of the TH3122 interface chips! Doh!

Then downloaded some of the sketches! Funny that the example codes are focused on control of the sound system except for the last one that is the command to turn off signals as side lights!

So I think one of the ways to achieve what I'm looking for (turn signals off w/ parking lights) is with the euro version headlights.

I was just checking out my Euro set I have waiting to be installed and the turn signal bulb is different then the US spec ones.

The Euro lights use 7507 bulb which is only single filament versus the 3157 dual. It's a also a silver bulb but amber.

Also just looking at pictures and videos of Euro versions none of them have the turn signal on when the halos are on only.

The turn signals stay off when the headlights come on too though - same as you can set up with the US-spec lights.

On the Euro-spec lights, turn signals are just that - turn signals only.

Aren't you wanting the turn signals on with headlights but off with halos (park lights)?

This is the same on both of my E39's with clears. They would not light as driving lights. I can't for the life of me remember an error code generated on the dash.

since this thread is completely about turn signals, can anyone tell me how PWM is coming into play here

LED is fine on turn signal wire with low beam off

When i turn on low beams, something must be going that is feeding a different PWM on th the turns as the LED fritzes out
I'm thinking with lows off, and it's just full on 12V when u engage the turns.
With the low beams on, the 12V PWM is cycling on the turn signal wire.

My car is set up like this. A member from the e53 group on Facebook did it for me.

What did you use? Hard wiring or via coding?
