Scratched an itch for Christmas
And then 7 years later in 2011, was the '04 4.8is. All V8-ish and *begging* for mods. And mod I have. So, at that time, just a couple years across the ole 'age 40 line,' I started to think. Well, maybe I'll pick up a heated wheel when the OE wheel with only 11k miles gets crusty. And I never really saw it as 'crusty.' Shiney, maybe. But they all do that. Buttons were fine. No peeling. Enter the shadow of age 50. And a long, dark- and surprisingly *cold* shadow it is. It got below freezing for a week or so and I was *done* with the chilly fingers. And then... well, a story that I don't need to detail. XOutpost member kindness. Black Friday (or was it CyberMonday?) extra % off, and I was hooked. Order up, Sally. It's gonna be a warm Winter. It took an extra 10 days to get it shipped from Germany. I bought the slip ring even though I wasn't sure I needed it. I had planned to wait until I return from warmer weather in January. But I sent pics to my buddy at his shop and he said, "We got time!" Boom. The parts were here less than 18 hours and they were installed. This first test after the relay install... And finally all buttoned up. Yes, I forgot to turn it on for the pic. In fairness, it's nearly 60 degrees here today. The thing feels good. It *looks* fantastic. And the directions here on XOutpost simply cannot be beat. Cyber Friday deal from getBMWparts.com: Wheel: $650Free shipping 6 mos same as cash when paid with Paypal. I'm such a sucker for same as cash. I'm still paying off some wheels that were the same deal.

I saw the pic of the relay on the table and as I scrolled down, I see the mention of it. What am I amiss. Mind sharing.
For our pre, we're on the 2nd M3 replacement as well . Replaced when it got smooth..nothing better than the new grainish feel to things |

People who don't know, don't know what they are missing out.
I had this on my e70 but never got to test it as I sold it before it got cold. It came standard on my 4.8is and OMG how did I live without it all these years?! I've been missing out!!! You think gloves will suffice, but gloves plus heated steering wheel...heaven lol

re: the crusty comment.....
On the wipedowns, I will used maybe 5 - 6 MF's cleaning the steering wheel in a single session . My mindset is to not spread the hand oils from 3 oclock to 6 oclock, etc. Each quadrant get's a single wipe. Try that on the new steering wheel regimine ;-) |

Standard startup procedure for ours.
E70 Crank car. Turn seat heater to max Turn steering wheel heater on. Wait 1 or 2 minutes and head out. E53 Crank car. Turn on seat heater. Turn on steering wheel heater. Wait 20 seconds and turn OFF seat heater before pants ignite. Wait another 30 seconds or 1:30 and head out. Seat heater in E53 is scary. Need to fix it.

Seriously! The '01 is *just* like that! ROFL. That is the funniest way I've seen it said in a long time. It's like that sh!t is wired up to something it shouldn't be. Too funny. But I don't have that problem in the '04. Nor did I have it in the '04... uhh.. B4..
I will share this lil tidbit. The warm front brought rain. And temps into a very mild 60 degrees- and almost twice the high last week. So for the 1st 'production' test, I hit the wheel warmy on the way home. 100' from the parking exit and my wheel was warmer than the air. And my old knuckles, sore from too many ignored warnings as a youth, simply would *not* leggo the warm eggo. See? It's these little silly things that keep me in the moment with this thing- and the others. Lots of people will buy a whole new car bc it has a snappy heated wheel. But I promise you... It's like that time when your high school sweetheart turned wife raises an eyebrow from under a towel while holding a razor. "Your turn, big boy." 21 years with her and it still makes me itchy. And yet I'd ride again for the 1st time. And again and again.
