Speaking of MPG, what do you get? I got 22.8 yesterday in my 175 miles. Seems a little low to me but it is heavy and all wheel. What should I be getting?

My X5 typically gets 20-21 highway wife's gets 22-23 (but once got 27). I think my MAF is shot so I'm going to trade with wife's to test my theory.

My long term trims are opposite of short term and I've read that when that happens MAF is suspect.

Is there a way to test your MAF short of swapping in another one? My wife's X has about 100,000 miles less on it than mine. Probably in better condition than mine, but? My mileage is lousy and I recently swapped all 4 O2 sensors with no change in mileage even after resetting all accommodations.

We are parrallel universes. I've swapped all my O2 sensors and replaced plugs in both our cars I haven't done her O2 yet but she gets a lot better mpg than me.

The research on MAF I found recently said that if the long term fuel is opposite polarity it strongly suggests the MAF is suspect.

It's so easy to swap MAF if you have compatible MAF as I do, I would swap yours and wife's as I'm going to do.

Our cars are close in odometer but perhaps hers was replaced once and mine wasn't.

The MAF sensors are cheap enough to just replace as a PM. I got mine a month or so ago from FCP Euro for about $140.00

Is it possible for one to be bad without throwing a code?

Oh very much so. They just wear out and stop reporting accurately.

The 02 sensors will detect a rich/lean condition and input a correction to counter the error.

It's a very slow process and as you will note from the salty dogs on here it's a very finesse job that knock off sensors do a crappy job so you can't get away with knock off sensors.

If the sensor is terribly out of whack, you can unplug it and get better performance from the car guessing how much air is coming in.
