Engine fail safe

This morning driving to work I got an engine fail safe when I hit 200. Engine ran and sounded fine but checking codes gave me an error on valvetronic advancement sluggish in direction of rotation...

Ideas? Guesses? Premonitions?

I'm out of ye ol comfort zone on this, I tried to clear the code and it came back but I get NO communication error if I try to clear adaptations. So I hope that I'll be able to drive home today.....

Go through the valvetronic motor reset procedure and cross some fingers. The error is saying the motor couldn't keep up with the demand. Should have said which bank. I think the motors are identical so can be swapped. Swap, reset, see if error swaps banks to determine if the motor is shot

Ok, but I am getting a "no communication" error when trying to clear adaptations etc. Not sure why it can read/clear codes and give data on it yet when doing the reset adaptations it tells me it's not communicating.

Some days I think that if my insurance would cover a fire that I'd be found standing next to a burning X5 while moaning about the picasso and Rolex collection inside as the cops write a report....

I got it to reset by doing the key on but not running then off then start then off and back on...... New valvetronic set is on order.

It seems (guess only) that wire was marginally loose and once I hit 200 it didn't stay completely in contact.

Yeah, valvetronic was screwed.

Left me with a nice dalmatian look....

Got to love the fuel fogger.

I apparently should learn to keep it under 200kph, but hey where's the fun in that?

Year before last year I got a day in jail in Saudi Arabia for going over 271kph in the Challenger. Trust me when I say cops the world over have a completely different idea of "funny".

I was gonna ask what you meant about "... when I hit 200..."!

That's one heck of a commute!
