  1. Does your WITSON unit have the physical buttons and a slot to insert discs?

  3. Can the unit be configured to NOT power down all the way when the car is shutoff so that it comes on quickly when you get in the car?
  4. Assuming the above is correct, about how long does it take for the unit to come ON next time you start the car, when the unit has been configured to NOT power down completely?
  5. Does the unit have a built-in microphone that it uses for speakerphone during phone calls, or do you have to wire an external mic? If external, have you found a good inconspicuous spot for the external mic?

Thanks!
1. Yes
2. Yes. Yes it plays DVDs
3. Yes, although I have not explored these options very well on my unit.
4. Powers up in about 20 seconds
5. Yes, an internal microphone is provided with the unit. I do not like BT phone calls through my car head unit, preferring instead to use a Jawbone hands free earpiece.

My unit is an older Eonon unit with a retrofitted WITSON SoM (system on motherboard) that took me from 1GB RAM to 4GB RAM.

Based on my 1GB RAM experience, I urge anyone looking at android head unit upgrades to get no less than 2GB RAM and preferably 4GB RAM. I am very happy with the snappy performance of all my apps with multiple apps running at 4GB. At 1GB it was a pathetic and painful experience for me.

Thanks. Yes, I am planning on getting a unit with 4GB RAM.

I am curious, why did you put the WITSON guts into the eonon housing? I assume that's what you meant by retrofitted...

Because the early Eonon unit was only 1GB RAM. The octacore core WITSON guts was 4GB RAM and 32GB ROM.

I have fitted another vehicle of mine with an XTRONS Android unit with the octacore system 4GB RAM/32GB ROM and in my view, the performance is very good.

Yes, understood on the upgrade of the memory and storage. I was just wondering why you switched out the housing... :-) Was it because the Eonon housing is better looking than the original housing of the WITSON?

Hi Jac,

I'm not sure I understand how you thought I changed the housing

I bought an Eonon head unit and changed the SoM (system on motherboard) to a WITSON with the octane-core processor 4GB RAM and 32GB ROM.

Pretty straight forward situation - semcoinc bought a 1G (RAM) Eonon - it ran like shite, so he upgraded the processor with a Witson upgrade. Pretty clear motive!

Ahhh... Sorry, my bad. I did not realize the units used plugable compute modules. Thanks guys.

I did do a little research last night and had come to that conclusion. For example, it seems that the units with PX30 cannot use PX3 nor PX5. Anyway, thank you for confirming it! :-) .

BTW, do you know:
  1. What does MTCB mean?
  2. What is the difference between MTCB and MTCD?

I am also wondering about the process for loading ROMs on these devices. Is it similar to the process of loading custom ROMs on android phones? Basically get into the bootloader using some type of "3-finger salute" using the physical buttons on the unit and load up a new ROM via the SDCard?

Speaking of ROMs, I like the look of on-screen interface on the belsee radio shown below. Anyone have a ROM/launcher with that interface? I am not gonna buy the belsee unit, it is way too pricey... :-)
