Who Got Powdercoated VC
New VC were PC. I've been semi ignoring the issue....as the job looked good but the finish has been bubbling. Has not flaked off, but for sure there are area's where it's bubbled and not on the surface. I know magnesium is quote porus and I'm pretty sure my PC was on point with PREP. Anyhow, just typing outoud for those that have had the VC PC. How's it been for you on the finish ? I'm debating whether to even head the route of redo PC on the VC . I know magnesium is a b1tch to get right on prep. I went over the details with the PC. He's done wheels and calipers and such in the past for me..... We were clear on the prep since it's mag. I dunno if it's worth the effort to do a round 2.. Last edited by jsoto; 01-17-2019 at 12:58 AM. |

I had them done on my 4.6 and used a vein finish at Prince in NC when I brought a ton of wheels there to do, been on for about a year and not my daily but they seemed well aware of the necessary prep for magnesium covers. I have not noticed any issues yet but its also why I went with a vein finish. The shop was gonna keep the finish as a standard offering they liked it so much.
NOTE: one thing I developed was a leak post install of PC covers and my helper was quick to point out AFTER was its VERY important to clean out the channels for the gaskets as powder can sit in there and not allow for clean seat of gasket which happened to me on 1 side. It is the way to go. When mine are removed, it shall be done. Maybe black - I've seen it and it looks so fresh. I did silver on my last set, looks ok - but shows everything.

I had black wrinkle powder coat on my valve covers on my 740i. It held up well and I loved the look. For my 4.6iS, I had a spare set of valve covers so I painted them with some black wrinkle VHT. I'm curious to see how it holds up vs. the powder coat.

I took my covers off when we were replacing chain guides. Simply used oven degreaser, then sandblaster and finally clear coat. Looks classy IMHO.
