^ No problem. Let me know. Good luck on the hunt. With 8 of them you have pretty good odds... if someone hasn't beaten you to the tow kit yet. I always loved visiting yards when looking for e30 parts. Never were any e53's around though. Haven't been to one in a couple years though, maybe I should check it out again.

I decided to take the day off today and drive all over the Front Range looking for an OEM trailer hitch at U-pull lots. It was in the teens when I headed out first thing this morning and we had gotten about 4" of snow yesterday, so it was pretty messy out there.

I did pretty well for a day's work. I didn't find a totally complete OEM hitch, but I'm close. Additionally, I got an FSR (mine is bad), another dual-solenoid heater control valve (mine is leaking, though I have a used one coming from ebay - now will have a spare), and a heated seat switch panel in case I decide to add heated seats.

So the hitch is good/bad news. First the bad: no bumper carrier and no mounts for the bumper carrier. The good: I got the hitch, the supports that go into the back of the unibody, and..... I got the OEM wiring harness and control module! I had a printout of the whole kit and argued with the checkout guy that all these pieces were part of the hitch. They wanted to charge me for each piece separately. In the end, they got tired of arguing with me and I got out the door with all the hitch pieces for $21.99. I was okay with that. ;-)

I also scored a vanos adjuster for my wife's N52 (X3). I've been battling persistent vanos problems on that and I think I might have a failed adjuster unit. Was pumped to actually find one.

I have boxes of parts piling up in my office, so tomorrow I'll start getting the beast road worthy again.

It was a good day.

I've got the Tekonsha wireless controller with the factory hitch. Pretty slick setup.

E53s are at the price point that very minor things will total them. The junkyards here are littered with almost perfect ones, many with no body damage at all, totaled by repairs that cost more than the price of the car.

Yeah, when I got a quote for insurance from my guy, the comp/collision was going to run 10% annually what I paid for the vehicle ($3500). I told him to skp the comp/collision and I'll just buy another project e53 if I happen to wreck it.

That OE wiring harness is a very key find!

Good job!

VERY NICE. That is a nice score at a ridiculous price.

LOL... at the PnP yard I used to frequent they would have told you to get off the property. They don't argue/bargain with anyone...

For those with US / Canadian cars - the inside bumper beam simply has a reinforcement plate (improved safety in the event of a rear end collision) that you CAN remove to make it "Euro compatible" - an air or electric cut-off wheel and rust inhibiting paint will do the trick.

The OEM tow bar / hitch manufacturer is Westfalia - you can find the reference numbers in their on-line catalog. Patience will pay off to find a used one - it won't tear out your trunk floor and will hold more tonnage than any other (look at the other designs).
