I was wanting to put it on the side upper gate next to the tail light assembly but Im wondering if thats going to make it off angle being on the side so Ive actually considered going the license plate frame as well since its right there in the middle. What brand did you end up going with?

Do you happen to have a link? Also what camera did you end up going with?

I'm running it off ACC right now and taped off the extra lights. At some point I'll make a digital switch with the low-voltage reverse lights as the signal to enable the power to the wireless/camera so I can use the extra reversing lights on the camera.

Is that fully wireless? how's the quality and what does it hook up to? Another separate display Im assuming?

So a couple of questions for you since that was the route I was thinking of going.....

Have you noticed any differences in angles when using it there on the far side next to the tail light assembly? Just wondering as its offset if that will make any changes while reversing into a parking spot?

What camera is that and hows the quality?

I also used a relay (triggered by the rear light voltage) to supply full accessory voltage to the camera.

While not as cosmetically appealing as some other installs, it works for me.

I dont think theres anything wrong with cosmetics. It looks fine and is fully functional which is all that matters. I didnt even think about moving it there myself so thank you for the input. What camera did you go with?

As for the install I think using a relay and hooking it up to the reverse may be the way to go so I dont have to route more wires to the front, etc....
Do you have a link for the install process? Any down fall on going this route to the reverse lights in picture quality, etc....?

Yes, it works great for my needs and that's what's important to me.

Here is the camera I used

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Chetoo-CCD-...i/283324892003

It has built-in illumination which I found (before my lower aux backup led) to be very helpful in darkness.

Without the relay, the video in my situation was choppy and not consistent with the engine running. With the engine NOT running the camera was flawless (without the relay). In the end I used the relay set up as a matter of necessity.

There's a receiver module I mounted behind the aftermarket head unit. Plugs into the RCA camera input that was already in the connector. It also needs ACC power, but easy to find there. Quality seems quite good, but I haven't compared it to being directly connected.

I mounted the camera on the hitch cover and ran the wire through the battery box with a grommet to seal the wire. Camera is on a swivel bracket that allows me to adjust it. Camera is in the equal distance from the parking distance sensors. Nothing to take apart and everything is easy to get at if there is a problem.

I thought most of the newer ones had that built in as I see some without the illumination lights and they state that it has night vision built in? If thats not the case than I may just focus on one with the illumination on them. do you happen to know if the ones without are still good? Do you have any pictures of yours during the day and at night?

If running the relay is the way to go Im fine with that. Do you happen to have instructions on how to set it up with a relay? By the way does your turn on only when in reverse? I think I read some people having the ability to view even when not in reverse? Just curious

Ah ok makes sense. I was just wondering if quality would hurt due to being wireless.
