Service Reminders

The service reminder lights do a great job of telling you when you should change the oil... that is until you retire and your driving goes from more than 20K miles a year down to about 5. Likewise, there is no reminder system to tell you when you should check your tires or Alignment.

I thought about keeping a log in the car, or even adorning the windshield with one of those transparent stickers, then I realized, that this forum would be a good place to post mileage reminders.

So...

Last Oil Change: 1/1/2019 @ 144,200 Miles
New tires: 1/31/2019 @ 144,500 Miles

Feel free to pile in.

I think BMW issued an advisory that you should change your oil once every 12 months no matter your mileage. I'm guessing it had something to do with alleviating CCV issues for people who don't drive much.

Myself included -- I bought mine 2.5 years ago and have only put 12k miles on it. Having a gas guzzler isnt so big of a deal when you only drive 5k or less per year.

That's what the note/calendar app is for on your smartphone!

I log it in my phone with date and mileage and change it every 6-8 months depending on how I've been driving it. Usually lots of short trips where I don't heat up the oil enough.

I normally don't pay any attention to the dash indicator in the e53's and use the notes I keep on the computer for service stuff.

Now the 2013 E70 is another matter all together. That sucker tells me the service date, miles to go till service, etc. Also it warns you went the service times are coming up. That one I find useful. Especially the brake pad part. Its pretty dang accurate in how many miles to go till service needed on the brakes and has the front and rear on separate counters.

Yea I miss that about from my E70, the iDrive with all the system info. But for those with android units, I believe the iBus app has a similar option.

I have the ibus app on the e53's and it shows you miles to empty and mpg etc but not the detail the idrive does. Someone needs to maker an app for that for the e53.
