certainly doesn't have the street cred the 4.8is or the GTS has! LOL
Just your typical diesel motor issues like glow plugs and carbon build up. But if you are out in CA, I doubt you'll have startup issues in cold temps. Build quality wise, I'd say the E70 is very reliable as well. More space, more bells and whistles over the E53. Driving experience isn't as good but to each their own.

4.8iS you'd be filling up twice a week, maybe more...
E70 diesel, you'd fill up maybe twice every 3 weeks.

Yeah but with a 4.8iS when you go fast enough you travel back in time..

Yeah, i'm really torn... I could pick up a 4.8is for under $3k... I need to have access to an SUV, but it doesn't need to be the daily... I think I need to evaluate what my end goals are. the newer diesels are great trucks, over 30mpg and pretty reliable, but no fun to drive.

the iS sounds good, has good torque, but doesn't help my fuel issue.

The other factor is daily destroying the Cayenne. If I'm gonna do that, I'd rather it be the X5 where i have less to lose.

ugh... I'm a mess !! LOL

I test drove a 4.8iS yesterday. 140k, engine, trans was solid, needs front axles and what i'm guessing is regulators in all the windows. I can pick it up for $2800 though.

Thoughts?

thanks for the feedback. I'll update everyone on what I find.

You want to rely on a $2,800, 140k mile 4.8iS as a daily driver for your 24,000 miles/year commute?

What kind of drugs are you taking, that made you think this would be a good idea?

It wouldn't be my only car... I would find a more fun daily... just still need to have an SUV in the stable...

I can almost guarantee if you were to buy that vehicle. Have at least $4k cash ready to fix the other issues. $2,8k is stupid cheap...Might as well part it out if it doesnt work out LOL!

Yes of course. But you have to dig deep.

I found one and have been loving it ever since.

You know how they say every Porsche 911 is a $25,000 car no matter what you bought it for? The 4.8iS is the same way. Maybe not $25k but probably not far off from that.
