AWR-fix: Door Lock Cylinder Repair

I couldn't get my key out of my door this afternoon because a part not only broke but got jammed between two rotating parts.

Something not quite right here.

I made an album with some step by step including some important tweaks to eliminate binding that happens on most of these lock cylinders

Make sure the parts turn smoothly: sandpaper and files will help. The parts are all diecast with little to no follow-up tooling.

A-Premium Door Lock Repair Kit... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MQQQE80...p_mob_ap_share

That is the kit I bought.

Since basically short of a brick there is no way to get into an X5 if your remote fob doesn't work and your key cylinder jams, I made the screw that holds it in "break away" so I could get in by breaking the screw. Saved needing a pricy visit from a locksmith.

FYI, I chucked the screw into a drill and used an emery Dremel wheel to cut a groove until only about 30% of the screw was remaining.

A sharp blow to the top of the cover of the lock cylinder snapped it off and I could get in my car
