Yes, dead on I think as I cannot hear the fuel pump whirrr...It did start today after I put in some more fuel. Was idiling for a while then it stopped. I have put more fuel since almost to the top now. If that seal ring on the sender side was really bad wouldn’t the main pump still pump fuel if it was good and plenty of fuel in its side?

Yes once more than 30L the siphon jet doesn't do anything as the two sides are connected

Just a thought, seems many check the fuel pump relay which I completely forgot about and it may be intermittent. I pulled the fuse and that was all good. Might have a look at the relay next.

If the fuel pump is anything like it is in the e39 it's really easy to change, but I know you don't want to just throw parts at the problem. Also as an aside, How tall is "talljames"?

Hi amancuso, 6’8” so I had to choose my next car carefully. Most of the bigger 4WD’s, SUV’s here in Australia have very small driving areas even though they look big on the outside.

Wow 6' 8" same as my (320lb) nephew although he's a big softie thank God because seeing him ride a bicycle makes me think of the bear at the circus. and I don't want to be driven into the ground like a tent peg..

[Solved] It was the fuel pump. Moral of the story. If you have a faulty fuel sending unit (left side) or fuel pump (right side) best to replace/repair both at the same time. cheers

So you're 2" taller than one of my friends. Finding cars he fits in is a pain in the ass too. Surprisingly he fits good in MINI Coopers. lol

fuel guage
Have to reignite this thread. Back to my original problem. Rather than replacing the o ring I went and purchased a new bmw sending unit. But it took me quite a few months to get around to it. After replacing the fuel pump I had been constantly filling up when it got down to 1/2 meter. So, finally got a new sending unit instead of using the o-ring. Did the job and was quite proud of myself even though it is only a small job. So, kept driving to watch the meter. Took a little while to get off the full mark but then the meter started to move. I thought great and now I will wait till it gets down to reserve and the yellow light comes on. No such luck. Out on the highway and the meter was just a touch past half way and suddenly I was loosing speed until eventally I had to pull over and the engine wouldn’t start. Kind of scary having all these huge trucks flying by at huge speeds. Luckily, I had thought I better fill a plastic jerry can just in case. Poured that in and I was on my way again to a gas station.
So, this is my problem. Why is the dashboard gauge getting to only just past have way? Did I need to reset something? Any help much appreciated. regards
