My basic understanding is that you have to wire up the head unit so it acts like the oem Navi unit when the key fob is pressed. The oem Navi starts up briefly, just showing the splash screen (not fully powering on) when you unlock the car and shutdowns again unless the key is turned on to ignition.

All it is supplying a 12v trigger to power up the canbus box temporary and allows the iBus do it’s thing.

For example I have set my mirrors to automatically unfold/fold with ignition but in the mornings I have to wait until the head unit finishes booting up and ibus app starts running. Not a problem when the head unit is on standby.

I have not tried wiring it up for consumer shutdown but for now I can live with having to push the buttons in the mornings to unfold (I was doing it manually all these times anyways).

I will be trying it out eventually though as I want my angel eyes to turn on when I unlock the car
Ah I see now. I forgot about the iBus being tied to the HU power. That's probably the reason why I'm not getting it to work. I guess if I really want the coming home feature, I'll have to find a 12v with the unlock.

Currently, unlock with ign off on Modlight does not work correctly. If you pull the key out too quickly, the windows open. Other issues include the mirrors opening with ign2. Dont know about the "iBus app", I've never heard of it, but the Modlight is a bit finicky on the E53. Svetlin (Modlight) is trying to fix it. Apparently there are issues on 'some' E53s but I can only confirm I have some hiccups with mine.

Yeah me too. Do you have the early unit with the last firmware of the the newest with new firmware?
Svet offered to flash the latest firmware in mine but needed to send it back. Shipping cost was more than a new ModLight2 so it never happened. I kept getting iBus collision issues with mine so I took it out.

Here's the thread I learned everything about consumer shutdown:

Post #150 about halfway down he starts explaining how to wire it up:

https://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e3...-15.html?amp=1

Still not too clear myself but you need to take pin#4 from the HVAC and tap into the ignition wire on the headunit harness and then something to one of the CANBUS wires which is the part I'm not to clear on.

I have no clue what unit I have, I got it like a month ago. He offered for me to ship it aswell, but we haven’t started those discussions. I’ve just been helping him diagnose the problem however I can. I am damn sure not paying for round trip shipping, for a problem that was advertised as functioning...

The firmware update happened in late 2017 so you have the latest. Mine is the early version.

Hello, guys! I am Svet from modBMW. I know it is an old thread, but I decided to post anyway.
If you didn't set function21 (choice of vehicle model) of modLight2 user menu to option3 (E53), modLight2 sends wrong (e39) IBUS commands to your car and instead of folding/unfolding mirrors on engine turn off, it opens/closes your windows.
So, the command for E39 mirrors folding does not fold mirrors in e53, but it opens/closes windows.
There are several possible solutions, even if your modLight2 is with old firmware:
1. Disable all "mirror folding/unfolding" functions of modLight2.
or
2. Set function21 to option3 (E53).
2.a. Set function18 to option1 or option3.
And please contact me if there issue or problem, I will try to help you, but contacting us will help us to find and fix the issue in our module's firmware. Thanks!

PS: At the end of 2017 it was modLight2's last hardware upgrade. We will never stop trying to improve the firmware, so any feedback is very appreciated.

Hi Svet, good to see you on our forum!

The one thing the ModLight2 was missing was the ability for running the halos as DRL and I even sent you an email requesting that feature but you told me it was not available nor would it become available in future firmware.

That left me and most of us wanting that feature to go with an Android infotainment head unit running the Rolf Resler iBus adapter and software.

I still have my ModLight2 but it was Gen 1 so needing the upgrade for Gen 2 and the cost of shipping it back to Bulgaria was more than just buying a new unit from you.

Thanks! Our module offers the following features (welcome lights, goodbye lights, follow me home lights, comfort turn signals, cornering lights, independent heater control by the keyfob remote, fold/unfold mirrors by keyfob remote), but sorry, it doesnt offer DRL functionality. We decided to not add DRL function and the reason is because it is not safe enough. Thanks for comparing modLight2 with IBUS-app, but the both have positives and negatives and of course you will decide which one you would like to have in your car. I had both of them in my car. Now I dont have E-series anymore and I'm really missing both of them - modLight2 and ibus-app.
I can explain and talk a lot about the reasons why we decided to not add DRLs, windows closing by the key etc if you say it's necessary. You think it is super easy and safe to add that feature, but... It's not.
