Measure the distance from rim to fender each corner. If they are to spec the system is likely working. It is having some problem interfering with changing the height.

Do this simple additional test: come up toward a wall with your headights on and hit the breaks firmly for a solid second or so and let up. With the nose dive the headlights should auto level and again when the nose recovers. That will tell you the height sensors are working at least on the right side.

Just picked it up from my local BMW Indy shop to get a once over. Turned out a lot better than I expected. System was showing 6 faults for the self leveling system. The PO has a lot of parts changed by a shop that didn’t have the software to clear the faults. My shop cleared it all, took it on a 60 mile road test and all checks out. Suspension is all working correctly. Raises and lowers. No issues. Best case scenario on that. Stuff he mentioned,
Oil service
Air filter and cabin air filter
Coolant flush as I guess at some point the wrong coolant was added
Front thrust rod bushings
Front pads and rotors
Drive shaft flex disc cracked
And that was all. I was quoted $2k for the above maintenance. Does that seem fair?

Nice X5. Welcome. Really good news regarding the EHC suspension.

$2k doesn't seem out of the ordinary. But doing it yourself will save you $1000-$1200.

Do the oil service, air filter, cabin filter, pads/rotors yourself! They are very easy to do.

Welcome

Price seems fair, and it doesn’t seem like your Indy has gone on a shopping expedition as the list is reasonable and appropriate for the mileage and age.

I tell everybody I meet regarding DIY and X5 it's a must. If you are reasonably handy use the $1000 cost savings in DIY to invest in some tools like a good floor jack, scanner, impact wrench (Milwaukee just introduced a stubby 12v that has the power to change wheels).

The front arms are an easy fix if you change the whole arm a MFr to change the bushings only.

Nice find and welcome! Mine is also a 2004. Bought with 81K in October 2017 and it's now sitting at 102k. Just so nice to drive!

I ordered some of the maintenance items to tackle myself, air filter and cabin filter. Also will be doing the front brake job myself. Anyone have a good place to order brake parts from?
I’m taking it to my Indy shop to get the oil change and thrust rod bushings replaced. Is it necessary for an alignment after the bushing?
Also still haveing some suspension issues. Came out today to leave it was sitting a lot lower on the driver’s side rear. Started it up. Pressed the lift button, felt it move. Drove a lot less bouncy then before. Measured difference in right rear and left rear and it’s a decent difference off. I’m thinking there may be a leak in the driver’s rear airbag.

Airbag is an easy DIY. I bought my wife's brake parts from Amazon mine from O'Reilly. Don't need the sensor unless already worn to the point of worn out.

The O'Reily read rotors were powder coated light grey and are beautiful a year later.
