Anyone with Carly in the PacNW (Seattle/Bellevue) area
I have changed out one license plate light for a backup camera, and also would like to change other tail lights to LEDs. I understand the app Carly (with the OLD "extended"? cable) can talk to the E53s and code out light errors. I tried with a friend with Carly with their OBD1 and OBD2 style adaptors, and it couldn't talk to the LCM module. Is there anyone in the Seattle/Bellevue area with Carly AND has been successful with a light recode in your E53? 1) Does it work, and 2) Any chance you could code the lights out for me? Thanks!

He needs to order the adapter from Carly to use the bluetooth OBD2 unit with an E53. I used to have the same problem but ordered that adapter and now the cabled unit just sits in the cabinet. I have used both the cabled OBD2 unit and the bluetooth unit to code but the adapter must be used inline with the bluetooth one. I think it just bridges a couple of pins. This is the one:

Awesome thank you.. I will look into that adapter. I would love to find someone who had it all already.

Still hoping to find someone with the Carly adaptor plus the funky adaptor to their adaptor for the E53 line. I just want to code out a license place error for my lovely (and amazingly patient) wife and her X5.
Anyone?

I have NCSexpert and have coded my lowbeams, fogs, highs to work at the same time and also done the euro hazard light sequence so I've been able to do a couple of lighting modifications. I believe the ability to code out monitoring of the license plate lights is possible as well?
I'm in South Surrey just up across the Peace Arch border if you ever find yourself this way, we can give it a try. |

I would go with BMW Scanner 1.4 (PA Soft 1.4) for the E53/E39/E46 series. I have seen prices under $20 with dongle, cable and software. Programming is a breeze.
Here is a used one near you for $22 https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-SCANNER...ss!28078!US!-1

I appreciate that, but didnt think it was compatible? I looked at all the listings in Ebay and even Amazon, I contacted several of the sellers that said the E53 wasnt compatible. If it is, I will happily pick that up.

I have BMW Scanner 1.4 and it works fine with my 2005 E53 4.4, but I can't say with certainty whether it would actually do what you're planning on the E53.
