Minor leak at lower PS Hose: can I cut 1/2" off and re-attach?

Coming from E39 1998 528i...

In the past, the PS return hose UNDERNEATH the PS reservoir leaked and I cut 1/2" off and re-attach it with new clamp. It worked for 10 years.

Another question: if it leaks at the bottom of the PS PUMP, can you do the same thing, i.e., cut 1/2" off and re-attach with new clamp?

This is the leak I am referring to...

Yes you can.
The hose is cheap and an easy install so why would you bother with a 30/120 day fix when you can resolve the issue once for another 50K?

Check your Rad side and as both get hard and start leaking at 15 years/80K

If it's not the return hose, but the high-pressure hose, you probably can't cut and reattach.

That is a return hose, the high pressure is a banjo bolt.

The amount of work required you are better just getting a new hose. All the fluid from the reservoir will drain out when you remove it.

So might as well get a new reservoir as well as the filter is built in.

It is a temp fix.

I can clamp gently above it to do the work.
Will report back.

I think it is the hose supplying fluid to the PS Pump.
I drew a diagram as I understand it.

The leak has been there for 5 years (bought the car in 2014).

Now I know why in REALLY COLD days (like -20C etc.), the PS squeak when turning right. This is because when COLD, the hose shrinks a bit more, air is sucked into the PS Pump.

My 2007 Honda Odyssey had similar issue but it was a defective O-ring, exactly where the hose enters the PS Pump itself.

It looks like your system is ATF. The CH 11 fluid was designed for cold weather. You may want to research it and replace after you get your leaks sorted.

The leak in the OP looks red which is ATF. CHF is green in color. Which is why I thought your system was ATF filled.
