On my Avant4, I didn't need to wire the reverse lights to trigger the backup camera. I believe that the adapter unit was able to decode the CAN message for reverse.

Well wonderful. I'd say running it was "wasted time" on a new install then. On the truck I was working on I had already provisioned the PDC trigger relay circuit on it so the wiring was already in place to utilize the pink trigger wire.

Thanks. And sorry. It does kind of suck, but with a few beers (or rum/diet & wacky tabacky in my case... hence the horse voice toward the later half of the video) the time flies. I look at it as a chance to clean in places you'd never be able to. Got to find that silver lining right?

Only time i'd think about doing this is if I gut the interior and dye the creme beige seats to cinnamon then install the avin 4

Just amazing everything has to come out just to plug it into the back

Mmmmmm cinnamon interior.

You can do it without interior removal. They give you enough harness to tuck everything along the driver's or passenger's side kick panels and up behind the dash. I think bcredliner did his that way. I'm just anal retentive when it comes to my wiring paths.

Actually, here is a video showing someone doing just that.

Whatever you do, please do not do what the second video does with cutting the harness in half. This guy is a complete hack. 12 cheap butt splices is always the way to properly modify your harness.

X2!!! I didn't watch the video all the way through yet. I just ASSUMED he would solder the wires back together. And we all know what they say when you assume something.
