How Long are You Planning to Keep These Cars?
Until as pointed out above, you spend more on purchase price plus repair than it would cost to get a different better car the X5 will be a better value. I have to smack down on people I'm helping repair their $50-70,000 original price X5 when they start moaning that they've spent $1000-2000 on repair over the first couple years because they bought it with 120-150,000 miles for $3000 and are "shocked" that they have to spend close to what the car is worth to get it fully operational. My response to the comment "I spent $1500 making it whole" is: "and "? When I bought my X5 exactly 4 years ago, I paid under $6k at auction, it had 128,000 on it and I had a buffer in my head of "expect to pay $800-1000 on top to replace a timing chain or all the suspension parts". The only repairs or turned out needing was a cam position sensor, HID bulbs (bought some high-rated knock offs for $40 that look like the day I put them in 4 years later), and plug in the low pressure sensor for the AC. In the first 2 years needed to repair disa and replace the thermostat. Over the first three years with brakes and tires included, I did the math it was about $40/mo for my X5 for parts and wife's has been about double that (she had three to my one wheel bearing and front control arms and CV axles and thrust bushings. I think if you spend less than $100/mo to maintain ANY X5 you have nothing to complain about at all. That's simply amazing to me. $1200/yr budget yes some years a big repair will kill the whole budget but the next year might be $60 for a thermostat and that's it. My buddy with the 08 328xi keeps complaining that it costs money to maintain his $40,000 car he bought for $6k and though he prob spent about $1500-1800 on repairs that's about $100/mo and includes a full set of run on flat tires. "First world problems" I guess.

Considering everything I've spent on the truck I'm at $230/mo. But that includes the new wheels, body kit, Xpel, etc. Just maintenance and I'm at $133/mo. You aren't going to touch anything in the luxury department (with a warranty) for $230/mo, let alone $133/mo. I consider the X5 a great value. < Okay, okay, that may be a little far, the straight 6's probably fall into that category. But I do consider even the V8's to be a decent value. Just expect the first year or two you buy them to spend $1000-2000 bringing them back up to "daily" condition.

And there is the rub: at "Market value" the X5 with 120-160,000 miles or more will need $1-2000 but people are oblivious to this and somehow think that a $50-60,000 Luxury car sold for $4000 will be turn key ready to drive 100,000 miles.

I have replaced so many components on mine that it has become kind of reliable based on that fact. No plans to sell. As other people have noted, it's not the market value of the car that matters, it is the cost to replace it. Part of the equation there is the imputed value of all the repairs you have done, because a lot of E53s have deferred maintenance that detracts from the value. My X5 is virtually the same car as the day I bought it.
If my car were totalled, I would probably look for a used X5 to replace it, but it would be hard to find a car that needs nothing. I like your maintenance style Mark.
And yes, would be impossible for you to find a replacement maintained as yours has been (at least local from a non-enthusiast).

How Long to Keep X5
I bought my E53 12/2001. It had 7 miles on it. I drive it every day. As of May 2019 it has 250,000 miles. I will get out of it when I am forced to get out of it. I still love it after all these years!

I notice you're still on your original fuel pump. That is an inevitable failure headed your way. The brushes in the motor in there wear out just like tires do, except you can't see the wear until the post-failure autopsy. My pump ( 16-11-6-755-043 ) failed at 173k miles, luckily it was a hard failure, with no warning, and happened right in front of my house. If you're open to pre-emptive repairs, this would be one to consider.

I’ve owned mine for 8 years and about 75k miles (has about 165k on it now). I was driving it Saturday and was frustrated by an intermittent brake light warning and got thinking I should fix that right, do some paint correction and a good detailing, refinish the wheels and give it a go on BringaTrailer. Wife pretty much said no f’ing way.
