yes, there are the three bolts, but how does one access them, is it done from beneath the car?

Not in any way wanting to detract from symptoms of or solution to the problem, but just thought I'd mention that my wallet tends to make a loud whining noise whenever I start my X.......

LoL, mine makes more of a groaning sound..

OP, I don't believe that valve is too pricey. I think I'd consider replacing it. When they fail they allow condensation and exhaust to reach the pump. That combination takes out the sap.

I did see a guy showing a test for the valve and the pump, he disconnected the hose between them and was feeling for pressure on both openings... seemed straightforward. I suppose I could also let the thing howl until it eventually dies. Its just funny between this and the whistle I have at 2k RPM, the car sounds like crap, but it actually runs nice.

Loud whining noise when car first starts for about 3 minutes

You can unplug and ignore the SES light. I want to wife's apart and refurbish. Look on YouTube. It's possible.

If the valve isn't working you'll get sap errors.
