Reinstalling Air suspension setup 4.8is

Purchased a 2006 4.8is last month. had lots of maintenance done including the transmission rebuild.

one of the items addressed was that the air suspension was removed completely and bilstein HD shocks and springs were installed at a total of around $1000 in parts according to the receipts.

I received a large box of air suspension components including all 4 corner parts, some large long silver compressor? and a bunch of air lines etc...

previous owner states nothing was wrong with it but it was replaced as a pre emptive move since they had heard people had air suspension woes.

they could be honest they could be not, im not sure and i will look into testing all of the components individually to see if they are operating properly and if they are ok then i wold very much like to reinstall the complete system as im extremely partial to OEM components especially on a system such as this that sets vehicles apart from others.

im very familiar with coding and use software such as NCS Expert, INPA, ISTA P/D along with PASoft for other small basic quick things.

i'm extremely well versed with OEM retrofits and I love taking challenging tasks.

i was just curious if anyone had any advice on a reinstallation of the system and how hard it will be considering most people remove the system these days if anything.

i have not been deep into the guts of this platform so right off the bat ill have to dig into TIS and see what the entire air system look like but would love to hear some other peoples thoughts that have been in and out of the air suspension system a lot.

thanks!

fwiw heres a link to my hobby car that I currently have.

Air is a requirement for me since the back of my car regularly contains between 400-1100# of stuff. The main failure point is the compressor piston there is a refurbish kit that I would perform if I did the same thing you're considering which were I you I would do.

The compressor not being used so long will almost certainly need a new piston seal.

The other parts that regularly wear our are the air bags and the level sensors.

You should be able to read the level sensors before you start to confirm they are operational. At least two are used for the headlights even on cars without air suspension.

I would probably use new air bags at about $70-80 each i would not want to put in bags that have just been sitting for a long time. That said they are so easy to change I'd maybe put them in to test the system (same for air compressor). The compressor is a round shape not sure what the long thing is.

thanks awesome information and makes total sense.

I really want to get the OEM setup back to refurbished status and work on using software to adjust the height and play around with different settings.

this is the thing i was talking about, its a long oval canister and was in the box with all the other stuff. i dont even now where this would go

That is the front axle pressure accumulator. No idea where it goes I only have rear axle air. Use realoem.com to track down all the parts and see if you have everything. I'd expect your air pump to still be under the spare above the battery but the accumulator may have been in the way of the springs.

Upgrade to premium member I'm betting you can resell the spring conversion if you get your air working.

The accumulator sits under the car, about midway along.

Wow, a complete reinstall of the air suspension...

My fun meter is pegged, I can't imagine there'd be any problems compared to like when I tried to get a jack underneath my Zamboni...

wonderful thank you!

i talked to the prior owner and after some kind probing questions he stated that his compressor went bad and used something called the "bagpipeingandy" repair kit and after that the compressor worked great for a few weeks then he said all 3 LED lights on the suspension switch just went out and he knew the air suspension module went bad and rather then remove/replace/code a new one he just removed air suspension and installed the bilstein HD kit.

so ill start looking at the air suspension module and see if i can talk to it with INPA and NCS Expert and see if it at least is online and go from there.
