In my case, I don't know how old the strut mounts are. They are the final piece of my front suspension overhaul (besides the air bags) to give me an established known age so I want to do the entire assembly.

Ha!! I replace my entire front suspension on my 4.4 2 times in 25k When I got my 2002 the strut bushings were shot.

In the late 90's early to mid 2000's BMW and other manufacturers used "environmental friendly" plastic & rubber.....and now they just fall apart. Hence timing chain guides and ALL the other plastics parts that have broken on my X5.

ESC Tuning is great but these guys have all oem parts at pretty good prices. WORLDPAC - Parts & Accessories

This may be shutting the door when the horse has already bolted (hope you want to keep to air suspension rather than coils) - something I found weird when I assumed I had an air leak;
While the car was sitting with ignition off, one side was deflating, so of course I assumed I would have to replace the bags AGAIN... but one time I left it with the suspension in 'off-road' position... it DIDN'T deflate!

So I figured I had a screwy control module, not a leaky system. I reset all the heights with INPA and all is good now, parked in either position. I will eventually get round to replacing the module, but there's a ton of spending to do on it first

The price of a new EHC2 module has actually gone down during the last year. It used to cost nearly 1000€ but is now ~450€.

You know what? It inflated today. Only tried it because I left Carly in my wagon from yesterday switched on and it killed the battery. Figured wth and started the x5 to see if it would inflate since it was in front of the wagon so I could jump it. Started the truck... Nothing. Hit the switch to high ride height and it inflated.

Going to have to do some digging. Thank you for posting your experience.

Praying for you, man...

The air suspension is such a pain - I was particularly unsure since I got my EHC module from a used parts breaker!!

… but the ride is so comfy on air springs

I have a friend with a leaky bag. If he waits too long and it deflates too much it won't auto fill. He can use foxwell to force it once and then it will auto fill/level again. A similar mechanism may be behind why the hide height button worked

Okay, have not done any diagnostics as I am waiting to get the wife's x35d out of the garage. Just got the trans valve body back from being rebuilt for that so it will go in tomorrow and I'll put the front end back together (headlight work).

So in the meantime I decided to proactively do some parts ordering. Rather not need it and have it than need it and not have it sort of thing. Bought this whole assembly for $100. Supposed to be tested and working. Supposed to be. I bought it for the valve/solenoid assembly as a new part is $450 and if that turns out to be the problem, having a good used unit is usually a good idea.

Solved... Hopefully

Update: So, I think this is solved? Truck has been aired up at normal ride height for 2+ days now and is holding. Was waiting a bit before posting this to be sure.

Symptoms: Both front air springs will slowly deflate over time. When the problem started it would take a week of being parked to fully deflate the front end. By the time I made the repair it would only take 6-10 hours (overnight) before the front fenders were both sitting on the front tires.

So, in my case, the valve seems to have been the problem. I focused on it as it is the only thing that ties the two front air bags together at one place, in one component. I used my original accumulator/pressure sensor and paired it with the replacement used control valve that I bought off Ebay. The build date of the replacement was newer than my "failed" valve so at least it's a few months younger.

Valve part number: 37246779713

Replacement was not overly complicated but a bit tedious due to the giant plastic windage tray that covers the accumulator, lines, and control valve. Once you get that off (be sure to order replacement rivets and single use push pins) it's 6 bolts to remove the accumulator and valve combination. And trust me, you have to remove it to be able to remove the control valve. The fasteners will be seized on there and you WILL break the rubber vibration isolators if you try to remove it in place. Ask me how I know. Glad I had extras on the spare unit I ordered.

Follow the TIS procedures before removing the air lines as far as pulling fuses and lines/depressurizing the system so as to not damage anything. After getting things swapped over and reinstalled, follow TIS for repressurizing and inflating the bags. You'll need a Foxwell or ISTA/autologic/similar to do it.

TIS Air Accumulator Removal

TIS Air Control Valve Removal

TIS Draining and Filling the System

I disassembled the old control valve and it appears the gasket between the two sections on the front bag control valves has flattened to the point of a slight leak. I think if I resealed it with gasket maker it would be perfectly functional again. The 2 o-rings around the pistons looked fine. That's my theory anyway. I originally thought the vent valve might have been stuck or something for the front bags, but after dissection think it's the gasket. Looked around for replacement gaskets & parts from Wabco, but it appears they only sell the entire valve.

Great job CW, although I always cringe when reading about problems on here as the White Witch seems to take it as a challenge to breakdown or wear out as soon as I finish reading a post.
