Help needed: White smoke and burning smell 4.8 is

Hi guys,

Just observed a white smoke and burning smell from right side of exhaust pipe. Is it safe to drive around 30km more to get it to home? Or towing?!

Thanks in advance

After stopping 2-3 hours at my friends place, I managed to drive her to home guys all safe and sound. And no smoke observed this time except little burn smell. Need to figure out what is or was wrong

Love those damn euro headlights...

Symptoms sounds similar to VSS failure. If you let the vehicle idle for a few minutes, hit the accelerator, does smoke out of the exhaust pipes? Inspect your CCV hoses and pressure regulators first. Those are easy places to start first to see if oil is entering the intake manifold

And those LeMans front flares... there is a 4.8is for sale semi local that has them. If Red still had the 4.8 kit on her I'd be tempted to get it and flip it just for the front flares.

I started car again yesterday and there was not any white smoke or burning smell. Did auto scan with Foxwell T510 and there are no errors shown from indicator for engine part. But I am still thinking what was that smoke...

2 days before event I’ve changed engine oil and mechanic put 5w40 oil. On the event day I drive car 30 mins and then waited another 30 mins outside with engine turned on. Then after that I entered a closed parking space where white smoke and burning smell was observed.

The question is : what to do next? Just drive it as normal? Or something else?

Btw: car has 95000km on the clock

95,000km..?

Hell that's practically brand new. I'm around 215,000km on my 05 4.8iS.

Check all fluids for correct levels and check for cross contamination water in oil and vice versa and check your PCV valve for sludge as it sounds like you have someone's Sunday driver.

If all that's good then take a highway trip for at least a half tank out and then refuel and return and recheck fluids again, after that just chalk it up to weirdness. (But remember it)

So it was idling for 30 minutes…. ? Well, that could possible cause a LOT of exhaust smoke, from what I read of the N62 engine... even at your low mileage....

The burning smell could be from burning off of fluids spilt during the service. Again, burning off spilt fluids isn't noticeable when driving (moving) but 30 minutes of idling will cause a localised build-up of burnt vapours, smelling worse that it really is...
