X5 models with comfort suspension not de

Hi all, my first X5 e53 2003 4.4i had comfort suspension and comfort seats. My current x5 has sports suspension. Which petrol models from 2005 have comfort suspension or is this something that had to be specified?

It’s options. I’ve seen all sorts of models have all sorts of suspension.

What is "comfort suspension"...or moreso...which suspension are you referring to as the "comfort suspension"?

The suspension systems for the e53 are:
  1. The conventional suspension system with coil springs/shocks/struts
  2. The EHC (self leveling rear suspension) with front conventional coil springs/shocks/struts & pneumatic (air) shocks on the rear
  3. The EHC II (dual axle leveling system) with pneumatic (air) shocks on the front & rear

The 1st & 2nd suspensions listed above could both be optioned as "comfort" or "sport suspensions" with the latter "sport" suspension slightly lowering the vehicle and is engineered (obviously) for sportier handling.

The facelift 4.8is came standard with EHC II. The facelift 3.0 & 4.4 could be optioned with any 3 of the above systems which could be either the conventional or sport version.

I am not sure. I think it has something to do with the air bag suspension at the rear and how stiff they are and also the other parts that make up the stiffer suspension. Wow, what a difference though.

The word comfort does seem to be used about. Comfort seats, comfort windscreen (ie the green stripe winscreen).

If you have the rear SLS (EHC I) you will have a metal dome over the compressor in the spare tire wheel well...and the spare sits atop the dome.

If you have chrome trim exterior trim, then you probably have the standard rear SLS (I guess this would be the "comfort") suspension. If you have shadowline trim, sport seats, and 3 spoke sport steering wheel (and any of the other things that indicate the sport pkg)...then you will have the sport-tuned rear SLS system.

If you have a switch on the dash to the left of the steering wheel that allows you to raise/lower the vehicle...then you have dual SLS (EHC II) system.

Some owners prefer to remove the SLS suspensions...but apparently you like it (as do I). I think it offers a great ride when working properly.

In the states, 'climate comfort' windscreen is the added film inside the double panes of glass. It reflects UV and appears more 'blue' than green, including the stripe. Below, I added an old pic from an old thread about them.

I've added it to my E39 and the E53. Twice on the E53.

Hey Prop & others,

Can you get a photo of your driver's side glass top edge showing the layers?

My gulf edition seems different than normal (heat exposure?) but I don't see gulf glass as a separate set of part numbers...

Thanks

If you have special glass (aka "glazing")...then it will be listed in your VIN decode. The comfort glass option code is S358A. The usual "visual" tell tale is there will be a non laminated space just above the interior rear view mirror so that a radar detector or toll road reader can be mounted without interference.

BTW, you still have no model/model year/build date info listed in your posts or signature. This makes answer some of your posts not as complete as they can be...because if someone wanted to share detailed info in answer a question you've asked...they couldn't look up the info to provide it to you...because we have no clue where you fall in the production range for the e53. Just a suggestion...you may want to add some vehicle info in a permanent signature or vehicle info.

Yeah I know about the part numbers but having a "Gulf" package it sure seems like different glass and some unicorn coolant and/or modified computer settings to handle the 50c-60c heat.

When I get back to Saudi Arabia I'll post some pics of the glass layers.

I looked and my page shows the 3 cars/info under automobiles, but let me know if it isn't visible when looking at my profile as I've had issues with Tapatalk before.
