GOFAST GUY is on a distinguished road
UPDATE: while running the engine with the valve cover over... we were able to figure out that the ticking was coming from the driver's side bank and it couldn't be pin pointed to just one cylinder so we rotated the cam lobes one at a time pointing up and with a narrow block of wood, we pushed on the lifter to see if there was play or not and found on several lifters, there was play on both the intake and the exhaust side.

IF any of you have any helpful tips on replacing these lifters, please chime in because I'm think'n the following is going to have to come off
1 rad will have to be drained AGAIN..

2 the hoses pulled out of the way
3 the upper timing cover removed
4 the cam position sensor

5 cam bolts
6 cam and then I'll be able to get at the lifters to replace them.

I"m sure I"m missing plenty but at least I have the timing tools to be able to put everything back where it came from. I should probably make some marks on stuff as I pull it apart so I know where it should go when I put it back together...
