Everything seems normal - all lights on the dash function normally as if I just turn the key to position 2 (ignition on) without starting. When it dies, it appeared as if the car had just stalled out - I can't simply just re-crank to start it. I had to turn the key to the off position and then turn it back to start in order to get it fire up again.

I decided to order the BMW switch since this is a component that can potentially leave me stranded. So I didn't want to take that chance with the Febi switch, which was $40 less.

Good decision to purchase BMW part.

Just wanted to drop in to provide an update/resolution to the thread.

It's been about 2 weeks since I've changed out the ignition switch and the issue had not reoccurred since...so it has appeared that the switch solved my problem - thanks to all for your valuable inputs

An interesting note is that the original switch that I had pulled out had both a "BMW" and "Valeo" embossed on it. The new OE switch that I got from ECS (have label from BAV auto old stock) only got the "BMW" marking - the place where the "Valeo" would have been is just a blank rectangular space filler, so no idea who the OEM for the new switch is from on the replacement switch
