LLFS Jammed Open
LLFS error at the mechanical LLFS Jammed Open Story, GF started the X5 this morning to warm up, neighbor said it let out a big plume of blue smoke while idling outside but none of us saw it, said it was coming out of the right side tail pipe mostly, ran fine.. GF took it to work and back, ran fine, I took it to town, ran fine, gf takes it to town, engine failsafe mode, I scan with INPA, LLFS error.. What is an LLFS? I think it is something to do with the CCV system no? Will converting to a PCV system like this https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...-problems.html fix it? HELP!! SCARY!!

Did you reset the code to see what happens?
How is your oil level? Do you have carmel on your dipstick and breather cap? |

Oil level was and is fine.
Their WAS mayo on the cap and dipstick as usual. I installed the PCV conversion and reset the codes. Mayo gone.. It is running great but threw a trans fail safe today but it does that every 6 months or so, so I also cleared all of my adaptations and codes engine and trans today.. I believe that is unrelated. Trans had some code about CAN communications idk.. Once in a great while it goes into trans failsafe and has hard downshifts to 1st and 2nd. I clear everything and it is fine for a long time again.. Been like that since I bought it.. Engine had the usual SAS code I think but I didn't really read them, just cleared/reset everything.. Stupid secondary air pump maf code thing you know.. Drove to town and back after, everything perfect.. For now..

Ah yes I remember those faults.
They're likely an issue programmed by the BMW engineer just out of spite. I got rid of mine by clearing adaptations, codes etc. but if they weren't done in a specific order they'd come back and I'm sorry to say I can't remember which gets cleared first. Sent from my SM-A730F using Tapatalk

This is starting to keep throwing me into engine failsafe mode and is getting very annoying..
Any more ideas on this LLFS? What is a LLFS and how can it jam open? I did the pcv valve mod but I believe that is unrelated..

Quote:
When it jams open is allows too much air into the engine at normal operating temps, forcing the EFI to attempt to compensate - and it may not be able to do do so, hence the fail-safe.

It’s also called an ICV and needs cleaned sometimes. Here’s a video:
