Is there another way I should be doing this?

Ok, just finished doing valve stem seals on my 2005 4.4i with almost 115,000 miles on it - purred like a kitten before VSS, runs like total crap after VSS.

Diagnosing the "runs like crap after" part I noticed that the jacket on the bank 2 exhaust vanos solenoid harness was cut, right at the boot, no chance of salvaging it and I couldn't honestly tell how much copper was still connected. (I could clearly tell that it was not cut all the way through, and there was still some integrity in the wire, it was not a limp break.)

My question, with regard to installing a new pigtail, can I simply cut the existing harness and solder the new leads on? Or will that cause undesired resistance on that connection? - Is there better way to make a good wire splice that won't freak the DME out? Or am I way over thinking this

IMO
I'd go with a good lineman splice then you can solder the outer edges and seal it with good quality shrink tubing.

Excellent, then I will proceed with my plans and report back. Call me paranoid but I was honestly a little bit concerned with the solder adding some ridiculous amount of resistance to the connection... I know when I clipped my coil ground I played hell getting it settled down...

I use heat shrink water tight butt splice for any under hood inline repair.
