2001 BMW X5 Aftermarket Seicane Head Unit Installation Questions
New Guy here! And i just want to say that I look forward to meeting all of you, especially the people who are willing to help and for anyone who has any information to help me out. I'm looking for some help with an aftermarket Seicane Android HU install. I recently purchased my first ever BMW this April! WOOT WOOT! Granted, it's an older used model, but for the low mileage on it I knew it was well taken care of. It's a 2001 X5 E53 4.4i. Now, I have been doing weeks of research; reading instructions, watching videos, trying to understand how to get my new headunit working, and every day I learn more, but I've also become more confused as to if this head unit will work plug and play with the system, or if i'm going to have to do some serious rewiring and buy a new amp. So I'm turning to this forum for some assistance! I have a fancy PDF explanation with pictures that explains what im looking to do, and i've provided a link below for you to view. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JXL...ew?usp=sharing If anyone has any helpful information, I'd love to hear from you and get some input. Thank you so much for reading my post, and i look forward to learning and growing with this new community! |

Welcome!!
OK, here's shortened version... 1. Put the DSP Amp back in. 2. Install H/U and run 6m loom from H/U to old radio connector in trunk. 3. Purchase iBus adapter and iBus app to enable operation of new H/U with factory DSP amp. 4. See what sound you get and work from there. Good Luck!

ok, so technically speaking how does installing the ibus adapter enable the unit to play sound utilizing the original dsp? is there some kind of command that it needs to tell the unit hey its ok to send out the signal to the dsp amp and out to the speakers? thats whats throwing me for a loop

and if it comes to it for now, im willing to just take the amp and sub out of the picture and just wire 4 speakers. but i would need some serious help with figuring out which wires need removed from the big amp plug and fitting it to the seicane plug. or is that even possible?

Without this, the DSP goes to sleep and delivers zero sound....

I can assure you that I have the factory DSP working with an aftermarket infotainment system with zero re-wiring. If you run the iBus adapter and app your DSP will function perfectly, even sounding better than before. All you need is the Ibus adapter, app and DSP license.

Here is a link from one of our members wiring in the iBus adapter into the connectors no longer used when you replace the navigation/mid modules. 3 wires needed, 12V, GND and iBus. BMW IBUS Adapter – Android | Crowz Nest Here is the pinout for the old generation 17 pin harness and the new generation 40 pin harness. Ibus is on both.
