Transmission Adaption issue

If all the proportional solenoids are functioning correctly on your Mechatronic unit then resetting the adaptions is unlikely to cause an issue.
However, one of the most common problems with the 6HP26 is faulty solenoids. If you have one or more dodgy solenoids then the controller may have already set the adaptions for those solenoids to the extreme value for the range available to it. If you then reset the adaptions back to ‘nominal’ it’s possible that the controller will not learn the new adaptions in time before the clutches controlled by those solenoids burn themselves out. This is particularly likely to occur if this is done at the same time as a fluid change as the clutches may also need to learn a new friction coefficient, especially if the wrong fluid is used which has a different friction modifier pack. For that reason, it’s recommended that you should only reset the adaptions if you have either replaced the solenoids, or the Mechatronic unit, or possibly had the Mechatronic firmware updated. https://xoutpost.com/1094585-post2.html Phil |

Can’t help with your problem sorry, but just wondering why you did the mechatronic sleeves and seals? Just preventative maintenance? It seems to be the thing to do on e90s etc, but haven’t found much about people doing it on the e53?

hey RRPhil Thx for the quick reply
I managed to get the relearn process to work but will get to that shortly.... With no known service history of the car when I bought it I just went through the process of changing all the fluids and other little service issues these cars are known for, hence the mechatronic sleeve and adaptor sleeve replacement and because I cant help myself I thought I would tackle the adaption relearn as well(not knowing how involved it was at the time, I definitely wouldn't advise doing it just cause). I had done approximately 4000km after the oil change and before the sleeve\adaptor seal change. All other solenoids worked how they should during the relearn process except No4. After a lot of conflicting research in regards to zf 6 vs penrite, i used penrite multi vehicle full synthetic atf bmv fluid. I initially thought the No4 solenoid may be faulty so will investigate that further down the track. I checked the solenoids with Inpa and it said they were all working correctly. |

Ohsoslow yeah it was just a P.M thing, with no known service history for the car I`m just working my way through the car to get it ready for all the bulk tuning(hopefully) soon. done most of the little and big things from door handles to turbo core and majority of the deletes.

PROBLEM RESOLVED (Well so far)
So no matter what I tried adhering to the specific Software N for the relearn process I could not get the car to change into 4th at all and it would go straight into limp mode. So out of frustration I decided to change from 15-25% throttle position for 3rd to 4th gear change to 100% and fully release throttle making it change under no load at which it did fine and smoothly( absolutely not recommended to do through a relearn process because of the potential to damage the transmission)but hey I was ready to burn the car to the ground at this stage lol. Once the car was in 4th it cycled through to 6th as per normal. i then used steptronic to change down to 5th and accelerate lightly then coasting to an appropriate speed to change down into 4th and the same into 3rd the rpm was about 3-3500. I then accelerated lightly to about 4000rpm and upshifted into 4th expecting the tranny to explode but it did it nice and smoothly. so I decided to coast the car to a complete stop using very very light braking changing down through the gears all the way to 1st stopped for 10sec then set the transmission into Drive and cycled through the gears at 25% throttle position and it changed into 4th how it should then continued the relearn process for software N. Hope this makes sense its the very first thing I`ve tried with Inpa. Maybe I should have started with something a little bit simpler lol |

Ohh forgot to mention that now the driving lights turn themselves off when I come to a complete stop. I was testing this car at midnight also and it was not set on automatic lol. fix one problem another appears
