Bargain!! - found my Unicorn!

I finally, found my underride guard for a song!

Seller said he had it for years sitting in shed after he sold the X5.

No brackets and mountings.....will cook up something.....I suppose.

Awesome man. Have it professionally polished. Like you, I found the low oem skid plate for my old 1991 318is and swooped it up for a fraction of the cost. Only problem was mounting hardware- none to be found anyone online or otherwise. I ended up making a few trips to the hardware store which was cheaper anyhow.

Awesome score. I wonder if someone could create these if enough folks were interested?

I'm sure someone with MIG/TIG welding skills could come up with a better version!

Congrats! Very nice score and at a song. Gloss black or semi gloss would look really nice. That's been my plan (if it ever comes to fruition).

I will be forced to buy a truck with it on I'm sure to get mine...

I have a pipe bender made for making rollbars. If I had dimensions I could make the tubes.

Nice!.
I didn't know that existed.
I wonder if could be helpful to add some extra light. I need some extra road (spot) light in my E53 and donít know how/where to place them.
Thinking in 2 x13Ē diameter lights, (Southled Dakar 130).

Has been discussed in the past. Fell apart because there wasn't enough interest and up front payment was needed. I don't recall if there was an estimated cost but unless someone had the necessary equipment and capability to make them without sourcing much of anything my guess is the cost would be a too high. However, there may be some new members willing to take it on and more interest in the part now.

The main xpense would be the $400-800 tool used to bend the tubing.

I have that tool with the caveat it only does 7 - 1/2" radius bends. From the look of the photos it looks pretty close and would not need to be identical.

I could do a test case with electrical conduit it would look the same it just wouldn't be very strong.

If I got dimensions from somebody with it I could figured out the details.

I've been trying to come up with an excuse to get a welder like bc says impossible to have too many tools.

Oh: also I'm reworking how to attach the stiffening plate and that might work very nicely into the equation.

I'm planning to bump the size up from 10mm to 1/2" SAE because I needed some T-slot nuts that were grade 8 and the standard clamping force on those is nearly 13,000#

That's 30% more than the design with the self destruct single use bolts that cost $120. By using lubrication during install and using 80% of the rated torque I can achieve design clamping force.

I will be making a thread about the T-slot nut upgrade for the stiffening plate soon. I need to get my wife's reinstalled (it's off so I can track down her oil leak).
