E53 Expansion Valve location and replacement

was told that my 06 X5 3.0i needed an expansion valve replacement. guy was unsure of location but thought it was behind dash against firewall. from what I've researched, i see it accessible by removing the glove box and the cover panel on the left side? he ran pressure and they were reversed, leading him to think it was the issue. aux fan, clutch, everything else seem fine, doesn't blow cool, but fan works fine. help?
