I thought that too but I've been informed (on this forum) that all USA cars had at least premium audio and therefore an extra amp module in the rear, even where DSP and/or Nav was not fitted. This makes the 6m extension cable required for two of the three main audio configurations: -

1. Basic audio (no Nav) - amp in dash as part of CD Player/Radio - 6M cable NOT required
2. Premium Audio - (with or without Nav) - amp in trunk - 6m cable IS required
3. DSP - (with or without Nav) - amp in trunk - 6m cable AND iBus USB/App IS required

This is a simplified list... (and there's bound to be exceptions!) and of course, the iBus USB/App setup is a good idea, even without DSP...

*edit* and... I messed that list up. See Overboost's corrected list below... See? I said there would be exceptions!

Mine is DSP with Mid and Business CD (no NAV) and did not need the 6M cable. Probably should add a #4 to your list.

1. Basic audio (no Nav) - amp in dash as part of CD Player/Radio - 6M cable NOT required
2. Premium Audio - (with or without Nav) - amp in trunk - 6m cable IS required
3. DSP - (with Nav) - amp in trunk - 6m cable AND iBus USB/App IS required
4. DSP (without nav) - amp in trunk - 6m cable not needed BUT iBus USB/App IS required

Yeah - I just realised I screwed up that list as I was thinking that you would want to bypass the amp in the trunk but of course you don't have to do that - you can leave it in series and it'll work fine.

I'll edit the list to add your addition - for future readers.
