Alameda, CA Need advice on shop for timing chain guides fix
Hi everyone. I'm Located in Alameda, CA near San Francisco. I've got a 2002 X5 with the 4.6 V8. I've had this car two weeks and unfortunately, immediately after installing a new chain tensioner I believe my plastic timing chain guides broke. I heard them snap and while it idles with no noise there is a loud chain rattle with even the lightest touch of the accelerator that was not there before. I now need to find an independent to do the expensive timing chain guides. I'm looking for experiences, comments, or recommendations on three shops I have identified that are close to me. I'd rather not have to tow it a long-distance unless there is a compelling reason.
1.) German Auto Services in Alameda, CA - All things being equal this is my top choice as they are located just a few blocks from me.
2.) Bay Bridge Bimmers and Mini, Oakland CA - Good yelp rating and they seem knowledgeable and shop rates are in line with others
3.) San Leandro Auto BMW Service - Same as above, good yelp ratings and the phone conversation was solid
I do a lot of work on my own cars and I would probably tackle this one on my own if I had the time and space to leave the car torn apart for a few weeks. As it is, life is just too busy right now and I don't have the mental bandwidth to dig into this. Yeah, it sucks big time but I'm not letting this rare 4.6 go to an early grave.
If anyone has had good or bad experiences with the above mechanics I would really appreciate your comments. Any and all advice is welcome.
