From what I can find it looks like your transmission was recommended to use Texamatic 7045E (EU distribution).

Right now is when I hope RRRphil shows up!

If he doesn't know an answer about a transmission then it's only because it's an impossible question...

The label said that it is compatible with Dexron III.



So it should be OK. Even if you drain the trans, there still a lot of ATF in the torque converter, so you will still end up mixing the fluid.

The M57 engined E53 uses a ZF 5HP24 and the M57N (aka M57TU) engined E53 (facelift or LCI) uses the ZF 6HP26. Same arrangement as the 4.4i (M62B44/N62B44).

I bet fitting the GM 5-speed to the M57 E53 was a mission, even though it may have only involved the transmission and the controller. Wiring is a bit different...

*edit* Just found some info. that indicates that the pre-facelift 3.0d with the M57 engine had the GM 5-speed from the factory and not the 5HP24...
