Drivers footwell leak (or passenger if you drive on the wrong side ;) )

Hey guys!

Right hand drive X5, with a water leak dripping down from brake pedal. It’s not a massive leak, but consistently there after a night of rain. I’ve checked the sunroof drains, they’re in place on A pillar, and draining freely. I’ve removed the plastic cover around brake pedal, and had a look up there while hosing down car and can’t find any leaks. Anything obvious I’m hopefully missing?

Correctly identified as the RIGHT side however I have a feeling it's more likely related to the firewall break on the driver side for the brake pedal and steering.

I would look under the hood and remove the parts around the cabin air filter. I would bet a seal has worn out and allowing water in where it shouldn't.

In this case would the ac drains being clogged affect the driver's side (right side)?

Not likely to be A/C drains - as well as driving on the wrong side of the road down here, our seasons are also reversed - it's winter and damn cold...!!

Actually, it is possible that the A/C is in use for demisting etc. but I personally haven't used my A/C in over 6 months (except for running it occasionally to keep it lubed etc.).

Haha, yeah I haven’t used air con in a while, except used it to dry the floor! I have pulled off the cabin air filter cover, and had a bit of a look around, but couldn’t see anything obviously wrong. It doesn’t do it with the average downpour. So I’m wondering if there’s a drain around that filter area that might be partially blocked? Will have to look deeper into it this weekend!

Well I think I’ve solved it! Another night of rain, and no water in footwell. Some idiot (me) had run a bunch of wires through a grommet in the firewall, and it would appear that water was able to trickle down them and through in behind dash. Fingers crossed it’s that! Thanks heaps for help guys!

Never forget that little drip loop. Or at least a drip sag.
