Halo ring lamps

Another one of my E53 halo ring lamps has quit. At C$40 or so each at the dealer or C$19.33 each from Rock, they're pretty expensive considering how little use they are. When burned out, they throw a warning on the low dash that looks like the car outline with a pair of red 'dip beam' icons.

Being cheap like I am, I decided to cut the dead one apart. What do I find but a standard Philips Halogen 12082 10W lamp with bayonet base. Hold your horses folks, while the lamp is bayonet and fits in a BA9S socket, the hole in the reflector is too small to permit the lamp to be exchanged.

So, what's a skinflint like me to do? One out on 'Blair', and two out on 'Grey Goose'. LED? I expect that I'll get error messages with LEDs. Anybody know if the errors can be coded out? I have INPA.

There's a bunch of videos that show how to make two small slots for the bayonets so you can replace just the bulbs - I modified mine right after I bought the car (4.5 years ago) and have replaced several AE bulbs now.

Like this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDApyupw_1Y&t=70s

Best lasting bulbs I've found so far are Flösser - part #4010 (12v 10W BA9s) - and they also make a 20W version - #4020 (which I haven't tried). All the others I've tried last around 150 hours or so and then pfft...!

I guess this is on the "low" cluster - on the "high" cluster the AE amp failure is announced with the message "CHECK SIDE LIGHTS".

You cannot code with INPA - you need NCS Expert (with or without NCS Dummy) or BMW Scanner 1.4 etc.
