Coincidence or....?

So I started getting an occasional misfire from cylinder #4 and when it happens my transmission shifts seem off.

Is there a reason cylinder 4 would be a primary data point that the transmission would use or is there something the transmission is doing that is causing a signal screw-up in the bus/can making cylinder 4 misfire?

I swear it's like the X waits for me to read about someone else's problems on the forum and then screws with me by having a similar problem

Reasoning?

I only ask because the transmission changes only when the misfire is active and once code (misfire cylinder #4) is cleared transmission goes back to acting normal.

I'm not saying "Show your work" or writing "Magic!!" in the margins but would really like to have a path to go down, I have a spare set of coils and a 3 spare injectors so being Sir Swaps-a-lot won't cost me anything but time. I only hope that works because if not then I'm unsure of my next steps...

Definitely, but as I said if the two issues are separate it sure is strange that they only happen together. Any time something is happening in conjunction with another issue I get concerned (ex. What if problem is in the can/bus? Will I only be masking an issue?)

The issues are probably related but the cause is most likely the misfire, so like was suggested, concentrate on that.

Well just an update....

Coil, plug and injector swapped out and cylinder 4 misfire disappeared.

Now it's back and the transmission shift points are off (not much) but really noticeable on downshift as it seems like a jake brake from 2 to 1 when misfire is occurring.

Fuel pressure is fine and now have AFR of 14.9 / 14.8, before was a steady 14.7...

Thoughts, ideas, suggested hammer size?

Going to try this weekend.

Over here the weekend is Friday and Saturday so I hope I'm not heading towards a teardown...

Did you notice any oil in the plug hole before you removed it that may have returned? How long did the engine run before the miss returned to cylinder 4? Components replaced or swapped to another cylinder? Did you clean the spark plug by chance? What did they look like?
