Spacing the sub-frames?

I know this might be an odd question, but I would have it imagine some has done it or at least thought of it.
Has anyone ever tried to add small spacers to the sub-frames to gain a little bit extra height? Maybe 1/2 inch?
My X5 is lifted already with the spacer kit over the struts/shocks, but was looking to get just a little more body height. I was thinking of making spacers for the front subframe, the transfer case cross member, the drive-shaft center support bearing and the rear sub-frame. They would just be little aluminum or steel pucks the would go between the body and sub-frames. Any thoughts?

Should be straightforward and doable, but....

the little bit extra may allow too much torsion to the body panels not to mention all the bolts (everywhere) would need changing.
