No idea.. depends what's wrong...

At this point you either need to read the BMW error codes or take it to someone who can. Otherwise it's all just guess-work.

A transmission fail-safe can pop up for reasons not related to transmission issues - it can even be triggered by a bad battery or alternator. It can also be triggered by engine management issues and since it's a fair bet that your engine management system (DDE) has codes for the boost issues you were having, I certainly wouldn't be diving into the transmission until the all the codes were checked, investigated and resolved.

What scan tool are you using?

My guess is you are only scanning the DME with your scanner. I recommend a scan tool that will check all the modules including the EGS. I have INPA and BMW Scanner 1.4, both will scan the EGS for codes ad errors. BMW Scanner 1.4 can be had for less than US$20.00 but you will need a laptop running Windows XP or later. There are also Foxwell scanners that will do the job but will run over US$100.00

P0401 is EGR insufficient flow. I had this code when my exhaust manifold was cracked... not likely to cause a trans limp mode.

BTW, this code suggests to me that you are using a generic code reader. Forget using that to sort your issues - you need something that reads BMW fault codes properly. A laptop with INPA, DIS, ISTA-D, PA-Soft 1.4 or a hardware scanner like a Foxwell and a few others. A generic scanner won't tell you most of the codes...

P.S. please don't post the same question in multiple threads...
