I would never get underneath a car with just a jack supporting the car. I always place them on jack stands and if I need to take the wheel off I will shove those underneath the car.

other side has gone too....and the way it looked is as if someone took a knife to it...problem is it os one of those things that you cant really see the condition of fully unless you turn steering wheel full lock left and right and check whilst the belows are streteched so to speak...ok well the duct tape seems to have held, next free appointment is 9dec at the mechanic i trust....
