@ETAction, here is a thread on the members here that have put together regarding the Avin Avant-4. Of all the threads on here and other forums, I can't find anyone unhappy with it.

This is an AMAZING DEAL. I have all of these doubled so I am not ordering but I paid WAY more. LOVE these wrenches!

Ughhhh... that is a good price. I have a smaller set of those. Indispensable for working on cars. Wish I had some of those larger sizes as well. Want to order... but wife has all funds earmarked for Xmas gifts.

Thanks! Went with the Avant 4. The install seems rather daunting but I believe the payoff will be worth it.

Plenty of us to help you @ETAction. First, let us know your X5 year and current radio/navigation system. Also is it equipped with DSP? This will give us a starting point on your install.

2006 with stock nav and DSP

I am new to the E53 scene but not new at all to BMW ownership.

I bought the 4.8is formerly owned by Tam, who was fairly prominent on the Outpost.

Any pointers would be most helpful. Avin has an install vid on their website but it involves non nav radio which is a much different process as far as I can tell

Unfortunately, you have the hardest model to do the aftermarket systems install. Everything needed is in the back of the X5 (amp, radio, etc)to connect to the headunit up front.

One of our members Crystalworks made his video of a nav equipped X Avant-4 install for another member.

https://youtu.be/D1gV5QHJRs8

He took it completely apart for his install but it is done like the factory would have routed the harness. Others have simply routed the wires down the right side under the door sill covers. 2 hours vs. 8 hours, up to you.

Right. I watched most of this and he is taking out the seats and the center console... geeeeezz. I may take a day and go this route as it is what I would prefer but definitely daunting.
I'll chime in if I need some pointers but for now i'll take optimistic thoughts and positive vibes!

You can always run it down the side and see if you are happy with the results. You can always strip the interior later after the holiday, you aren't modifying the harness either way. Up and going in a few hours as opposed to all day.
