Gascap not sealing? Cure?
Fast forward a few weeks, same thing. CEL but I figured all I needed to do was retighten the gas cap. Nope, not this time. Next day I bought gas, re-tightened gas, CEL off again. When I bought this thing there was black crud in the gas door area, hasn’t come back after cleaning. Gas cap and seal seem good, anything else I should look at in the fuel system? What's the exact code you're getting? The gas cap shouldn't throw an o2 code, but it will throw one of the various evap codes. As far as the crud goes, just make sure the little drain is clear, or water will back up around the cap and could seep into the gas tank.

Mine was throwing evap codes. I greased it and it's been fine since. O-ring is cracked and I need a new cap, but I'm cheap. As long as the grease works I'll leave it.
