4A62 EWS Tampering after a low battery.

Evening guys was doing a big service on the X5 today and let the battery get down and it’s kicked in the immobiliser code. Engine turns over strongly but no start.

The battery voltage is 10.90 but is now on a charger. Completely my own fault I think.

I’ve got a Foxwell HT530 will this do the re-sync of the EWS when the battery is charged?

I’ve got INPA as well but I don’t think it’s a good copy.

If anyone has a INPA step by step for this resyncing the modules if the Foxwell can’t do it?

INPA has the resync feature but unfortunately that usually doesn't work. DIS or ISTA can do it for sure. I have no knowledge of that Foxwell unit.

Was the key in the ignition when the battery went flat? Do you have a spare key? If it work with the spare key the EWS is probably good, but the chip in the key is bad.

Both keys do the same and when I checked on the computer the keys are still reading as active and coreect

If the engine is cranking like in this case there is no problem on EWS key recognition.

Have you checked for spark and gas? You need these two items in order for the engine to fire up.

Lost EWS-DDE sync will prevent fuel injection.

It’s a Diesel so no spark.

So it’s all sorted...... kind of lol

So the car started again now the battery was reconnected.

I did the adjustment on the Foxwell and it started up first time. Weirdly though the fault code is staying there. Can’t shift it with the handheld scanner, but maybe it stays as a marker until it’s goes to BMW or something?

Anyone know a way of getting rid of the code as i don’t like something sat there that can stop the car starting.

Equally although probably known already but the cars rear air suspension put itself into production mode which was a weird one. So that needed resetting to get rid of the “Self Leveling Sus Inactive” message that wasn't accompanied by a fault code.

Cheers for the help tho chaps, I did start to panic a little!

Works on both keys as well which again is weird but the car says there are 3 keys registered with the module so maybe all three need to be used for the code to be deleted?

Guessing the 3rd key is a valet key or a spare the previous owner has lost.

Note to self! From Now on sling the battery charger on if I’m working on it! I’m hoping it was just a drained battery from the forecourt as I’ve not driven it at all since buying it and it was sat there since early December.

Alternator is charging at 14.1-14.3v and the battery is now at 12.0 after an hours drive
