19mm hex 14x1.5 45mm Lug Bolts for 15mm Spacers

Hey Gang,

I got my 4.8iS front flares installed and would like to look at kicking the front wheels out a touch to mate with the edge of the flares. I have a set of H&R hubcentric 15mm spacers that I had used on my E46 and checked the fitment today and they look like they are correct but I am wanting to find some 45mm length threads at M14x1.5 with a 19mm hex. All I seem to find are 17 mm hex. Does anyone have these on their X5 or know a source that I can find some?

OB,
I can send you a full set if you want to wait for the mail. I think the "aircraft repair" facility has stock and who care about a zoomie anyway

Just wondering why OP wants to keep using wheel lug bolts. Lug bolts are about the worse design engineering failure I have ever encountered.
ECS tuning sells a conversion stud and lug nut set, one of the most satisfying upgrades one can perform.

Have any reason they are the worst design failure? I have yet to have one fail in 20 years (holy crap... time is flying) of driving BMW's. Working on at least 50+. Have worked on parent's/friends vehicles that use studs and never found any advantage to studs/nuts vs lugs.

Sorry OB, no ideas on the 19mm vs 17mm head size. Make sure your wheel can accommodate a 19mm socket and not need some super special thin wall socket to be able to remove the lugs. My Forgestar wheels can BARELY use a 19mm socket. Barely. I use ECS tuning 15mm spacers and extended lugs on Red. They are 17mm...

A design failure is different from a mechanical failure. It's just a poor design. BMW has a lot of very poor design decisions that can be improved on. Mounting and dismounting wheels is much more of a process with lug bolts than it is lug nuts. If you can't see a difference, you're entitled to that opinion.
Here's the facts:
If a stud is damaged, it can be individually replaced.
If a lug bolt is damaged and the threaded bore has stripped, you must drill the wheel hub and install a heli-coil or replace the wheel hub.
It is more cost effective for a manufacturer to use lug bolts rather than two pieces of a stud and nut.
There's no difference in clamping forces and strengths of materials if the grades of the hardware are the same with one or another.
Lug stud and nut combinations allow for the wheel to be placed on the studs and stay in place without falling off as easy as do configurations with lug studs.

Do I have a poor argument ? Feel free to refute

I was more curious as to your reasoning than posing as opposing position having worked on and servicing both systems. Personally, I emphasize personally, I have had the experience of it being easier to cross thread a nut onto a stud than to damage the threads of the hub using a bolt. Now it was a fairly simple matter to replace the stud in the hub as you say. But I much prefer mounting a hub centric wheel using bolts.

Thank you for elaborating.

Yes, sorry, I misunderstood your question in post #2. I have seen the stud conversions and agree they are the benchmark in racing applications. However, I was just hoping to keep it simple and easy on the X5.

Thanks CW. My style 87s currently use my original lugs that are 19mm hex and have plenty of room with a 19mm 1/2" drive socket. From my reading last night, I found a post from 2015 from a member e26jay that was able to find extended factory type floating cone seat 19mm hex bolts for 15mm spacers from somewhere and would like to find those somehow. I don't think he is still active on our forum but sent him an email and PM.

Thought I'd update this very old thread. As of today, the issue has been resolved.

Short version:
ECS sends 15mm spacers and bolts = Shimmy
ECS sends 12.5mm spacers and bolts = Shimmy
ECS stops corresponding with me.

I order 19mm extended head bolts with floating conical seat from a forum member. Reinstall 12.5mm spacers, still has a shimmy.

At this point I gave up and ran without spacers. The only time I rub is when I am on full turning lock. Other than that I am fine without spacers.

A couple weeks ago I finally decided to try this again. Ordered a set of H&R 12mm spacers and used the 19mm bolts from this board.

BAM!! Issue solved. No more shimmy with the H&R spacers.

The thickness in the part of the spacer that goes inside the wheel is considerably thicker on the H&R than the ECS. I'm guessing my larger tires are too heavy for the ECS.

See below. Black is ECS and silver is H&R.
