There's a fuel pressure regulator fitted with the fuel filter.

Diesel might have pressure sensor not petrol models. You can access the pressure on the fuel rail at the front of the engine.

I've gotten away with using tire gauge but don't use a digital one and expect it to keep working.

And does it have a pressure sensor for fuel? I don’t think any of the petrol models do but I would not be surprised if the diesel model does.

Sure does - the DDE modulates the output of the HPFP to raise and lower the fuel rail pressure and uses a fuel rail pressure sensor as part of the control loop. With fuel pressures up to 1650 bar, monitoring the exact pressure is pretty important.

I've not studied the M54 fuel system. I know it only runs at around 3.5 bar max pressure but assume that there's no actual pressure control beyond a simple mechanical regulator in the fuel line somewhere and therefore not likely any sensor to monitor the fuel pressure.

Low fuel pressure sensor?

Never saw any mention of a sensor but every time I’ve measured it was within 1/2 psi of design. (It has to be pretty close since the fuel is regulated by milliseconds of pulse and an assumed 50psi).

It’s why I tell people to measure their pressure when they have lean or rich situation not easily traced to a vacuum leak.

Looking at newtis.info, the M54 fuel pressure regulator is replaceable… as UAN stated.
