Can't read body or chassis codes

I'm having some trouble with the heater water valve only getting a 0.5 mV signal to either valve. Tested ground wire and it has continuity with the chassis ground. Without a correct voltage, the freshly rebuilt water valve never shuts off and the inside of the X5 is hot. So I thought I'd use my scan tool to check out some live data and run some tests on the IHKA.

I've got a Foxwell NT510 with the latest version of the BMW software and I have no issues accessing the engine and transmission computers. I can read codes, reset, view live data, etc. However, when it comes to viewing chassis and body codes, tests, and live data I get nothing. The Foxwell screen shows that it has no connection to the vehicle and that I should check the connection and try again. It is plugged in correctly.

I thought the issue was related to the NT510, so last night I finally set up my old laptop with INPA V1.4. Guess what, it shows no connection to any sensors except for the engine and transmission also.

Now I'm starting to think that there might be a fuse for the body and chassis portion of the OBD-2 plug. Has anyone else experience this issue and can show me where to look? 02/2000 X5 4.4i

Before August 00, the e53 has a data port under the hood. You need to use the 20-pin adapter or jumper the appropriate pins in the cap to send the signal to the put under the dash.

You can buy a 20 pins to 16 OBD adapter on Ebay for under $5.00 bucks. Just remember if you short out the wrong pins with the jumper wires you can damage the DME.

Or just wire wrap these three pins. Examine carefully I have no idea what happens if you short the wrong pins.

Yes! Thank you. I will try not to short my DME out now.

Alternative is to purchase a pre-made OBD to 20 pin round adapter from Foxwell, not too expensive and works perfectly.

Until you want to get real time data while driving. Way too many things were a pain in the ass with the adapter. I'm very glad somebody else did the research I just found which pins to short out and spent 90 seconds on a permanent fix that is a no brainer

bought the adapter. I'm also thinking it might become trash if I just short out the pins in the cap.

Thanks for all the info. I'll follow up once I've had a chance to work on the X5 again.
